Midnight Magnet Train by RexBAti Midnight Magnet Train by RexBAti
...GOIN' AAAAANYYYYYWHEEEEEERE~

Download for full-sized pic (it's huge)!

This was made as sort of a counterpoint to my last piece ([link]) and an experiment in lighting. This time I chose to represent Ethan/Hibiki/Gold in the Goldenrod City train station late at night, where the Magnet Train has just rolled in from Kanto. :)

I guess this is early in HeartGold/SoulSilver judging from Ethan's Quilava, so this is probably before he can get the train pass. If only you could see his look of longing. :P

This looks great! The lighting is super and you really conveyed the mood. I also love the Ho-oh light on the pillar and the stars visible through the roof! And this was definitely one of my fav games!

I can't stop staring at that Ho-Oh streetlamp, it looks gorgeous. *-* The starry sky peeking out from beyond the ceiling really expands the atmosphere of this picture much farther than the canvas depicts. Love it!

Oh man. You made a Journey reference. You are my hero now. <3

That being said, the piece itself is just beautiful. I love the lighting and all of the little details, like that awesome Ho-oh light decoration and the night sky peeking through the window glass. Very nice. :D

Wow, I love the rough shadings on this one. I always like pictures showing actual places from the games. I think there aren't enough of them. And apparently you really put some thought into the interior.

I absolutely feel the same way. Nothing beats Pokémon locations for evoking nostalgia in artwork. I get teary-eyed when I see people take their time in reimagining scenes from the games in their art.

Kind of a thin neck on Gold/Ethan, but a wonderful picture nonetheless! I especially like the Ho-Oh lantern on the pillar on the left.

I really like how you drew Quilava and the Ho-Oh statue. They look so real! The coloring is absolutely magnificent, too.
Ethan looks really skinny, but it's better then what I could draw xD

How fast are magnet trains supposed to go anyways? I mean, you have to go across two freaking 'countries'

Well, here's some stats on the Japanese Shinkansen, which essentially travels between cities in regions on Honshu and Kyushu:

"The Shinkansen (新幹線?, new main line), also known as the bullet train, is a network of high-speed railway lines in Japan operated by four Japan Railways Group companies. Starting with the Tōkaidō Shinkansen in 1964,[1] the network has expanded to currently consist of 2,387.7 km (1,483.6 mi) of lines with maximum speeds of 240–300 km/h (149–186 mph), 283.5 km (176.2 mi) of Mini-shinkansen with a maximum speed of 130 km/h (81 mph) and 10.3 km (6.4 mi) of spur lines with Shinkansen services."

Not to mention the trip might be closer to traveling from one U.S. state to another, or more accurately, from one region of Honshu to another based on the Pokémon world sharing features with its real-world Japanese counterparts.
